CoverGallery [Templates from the past]

Post by LotsOCds » Mon Sep 07, 2015 10:43 pm

Hi Folks,

Occasionally, when time permits, I'll post some of the more popular and interesting templates I developed over the years. Many were posted on the old forum but there may be a new one or two not posted before.

The first one, CoverGallery.xsl, is almost ten years old. It works with all the CAT programs. Other than some cosmetic edits, the original code runs the same today as when I first wrote it. There is a Help file that will explain how to configure the template specific to your database.

CoverGallery.xsl displays a page full of cover images chosen at "random" from your database. It's a fun way to view your covers. When I need a little inspiration I use it to choose an album to listen to (yes Doug I do listen to them), I also use it just because I enjoy the visual presentation.

Thanks Dave.
Copied the CoverGallery.xsl file to my templates folder, inserted the hyperlink as directed and I receive an error upon first opening:
ERROR: Could not parse template: CoverGallery.xsl
E:\CATraxx\Explorer Templates Doug\CoverGallery.xsl:8:
parser
error :
Comment not terminated
It never gets to the setup page.
What should I look for?

That's a very nice new functionality.
Thanks!

Rene

Doug: it went straight into the setup page. You can select 'setup' in the right corner at any time.

Hi Doug,

From the error message it looks like the file may have been corrupted, however I just downloaded it and verified that it is okay.

The error is indicating a problem around line 8 which is of course right at the top of the file and it is in fact the start of a comment. The first 12 lines should look like:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<?data type="list"?>
<?data table="album"?>
<?data table="video"?>
<?data table="book"?>
<?data table="stamp"?>
<?data table="program"?>
<!--
================================================================================
THE RECORDSPAGE SETTING MAY BE CHANGED TO CONFIGURE THE GALLERY DISPLAY
==============================================================================-->
<?data recordspage="1"?> <!-- Set to 1 to automatically enter the setup screen -->
If it's not obvious when looking at the top of the file you could try a fresh copy from the zip or maybe you could email me the file from your template directory and I'll take a look.
Cheers,
Dave

Don't know what it was. The header looked just like you posted.
I re-downloaded and copied and... SUCCESS!

Now I can look at all my pretty covers...
Yeah... <snort> listen to 'em... <guffaw>
Thanks Dave!

Hallo there all you Traxxers :)
First of all i wanna say a big THX for this template, as it looks great and gives an outstanding cover-overview.
I have set the recordspage to -1 and the rows to 8x12, so my screen is filled up with 96 covers. It takes ca. 6 sec. to load, i have a newly build PC and i think the performance is good.
Now a little problem occurs: I have 6 albums named "Geatest Hits" from 6 different artists, but whatever cover i click it only shows one album page, to be exact the album with the lowest ID-number. In other words i cannot access the other 5 albums with the same name, but higher ID-numbers through the CoverGallery.

Thanks in advance for your support Regards Winni

Hi winnie,

Nice to see you again! Sorry for the delay in answering. I've been on vacation and haven't checked the forum in a while. What you reported is unexpected behavior but the template attached here should work properly for you. Let me know if you see any problems with it.
