Artist Disambiguation

Post by felldownawell » Sat Dec 10, 2016 11:55 pm

Hello all,

I'm curious how others are handling artist disambiguation in Catraxx.

For artists with the same name, I am notating the abbreviation of the country of origin in parentheses after the name, with the exception of US artists, which I am notating with the abbreviation of the state of origin instead.

I'd like to move the American artists to "(US)" instead for consistency's sake, but I have 10 instances of same name pairs where both bands are from the US and I don't love the idea of "(US 1)" and "(US 2)". I'm considering doing country and state combined, but "(US|IL)" and "(US|PA)" seems a bit clunky.

I've seen the year of birth as one way to separate similarly named artists.
I have personally used country of origin and musical style::
Artful Dodger (UK band)

Chameleon [R&B]
Chameleon [Rock]

Jimmie Rodgers [Country Singer]
Jimmie Rodgers [Pop Singer]
Record Collector
"You Mean I'm Supposed To Listen To 'Em?!?!?!?"
