maximum size

Post by Charlie314 » Thu Aug 06, 2020 4:35 am

Hello

I have the following message when I open CATraxx, see attachment 1.

I make the recommendation: Tools/Maintenance/Extract Image

and I've got this message popping up, see attachment 2.
I validate with OK and the operation stops!

What do I have to do to correct, which path should I follow?

Thank you

Try renaming the album title to just "TEST".

I think your album title has invalid characters or it may be too long for the image file.

Hello

I did the TEST you recommended, but it didn't work.

I removed 2 album covers with the same problem on more than 30.000 album covers, and the extraction could be done until the end!
The cause of the problem is said to be the "Path of Access".

Questions
1- What is the purpose of the "Extract Image" function, what actually happens?

2- Where are the extracted images?

3- 2GB is the maximum size for the database?
How to increase the size?

4- I'm talking to those who have a database larger than 2GB, how do they do it?

Thank you for answering

Charlie

1- What is the purpose of the "Extract Image" function, what actually happens?
Images that stored within the database are stored as "BLOBS". The Extract Image extracts and saves as an individual file.
This extracted image is linked back to the record from which it was extracted.
The "BLOB" that was in the database is deleted.
Deleting the "BLOB" does not automatically reduce the size of the database. You need to perform a FILE > COMPACT DATABASE to reclaim the space.
2- Where are the extracted images?
Extracted Images are stored in the location identified in OPTIONS > DEFAULT FOLDERS.
Extracted images also follow the naming template used by TOOLS > AUTO-ORGANIZE IMAGE FILES
3- 2GB is the maximum size for the database? How to increase the size?
This is a limitation of the Microsoft JET database engine used in the development of all CAT programs.
4- I'm talking to those who have a database larger than 2GB, how do they do it?
See above.

For myself, my images are store externally. 4.7GB/34,000+ album cover files. The database is 400MB without images.

Hello, Doug

Here is the result after extraction of the album covers, incredible!
Your advice is very much appreciated.

Question:
Do I have to keep the location defined by CATraxx where the images are stored, or do I have to create another folder?
Which is the best solution ?

Thanks

Charlie

You can move the images but you need to "tell" CATraxx about the move.

TOOLS > UPDATE PATH > IMAGE FILES

As far as best. That really is subjective.

Simplistic is letting CATraxx put them where it wants but that's not always the practical solution.
