Can you add a format type?

Post by Dr.Funk » Tue Oct 06, 2020 2:58 pm

Hi Guys,
Is it possible to add an additional format to the format drop down window?
I have a large cd collection, which is all up to date, due to difficulties in obtaining some music titles I have been purchasing high res albums from the net.
I was wonderingif it was possible to add a drop down for a digital format.
The reason I ask is that I have mistakenly purchased cd's (from 2nd hand shops) that I already own in a digitised format.
If I could keep a record of all my library in one place this would help me a great deal.
Thanking you

Just type the new format in the field and it will automatically add it to the drop down.

You can also go through the Lookup View (Format) and maintain the info there.

Thank you for that Doug.
Of course when entering CD info one just puts the CD in the drive and it is read.
Is there a way of getting assistance when entering digital data? I can grab the cover no problem, of course there is no Barcode to worry about, but can I use some sort of MP3 tagger (despite having Flac and Wave files) to import data. Or, does everything have to be done manually.
Thank you for your help, much appreciated.
Regards

This COULD get messy.

CATraxx can read tag information that already exists. It can also read information from the folder and filename, if they are all in a consistent pattern/format. (Artist_AlbumTitle_TrackNo_SongTitle).

These methods are managed in TOOLS>AUDIO FILE OPTIONS.

If that info is NOT already there, there are a few programs that may help acquire that info. Music Brainz' Picard is one such. I've tried it and while I wasn't "blown away" by it, I could see its potential.

WAV files will be the biggest problem, as by default, they do not include any meta data (tags) like FLAC and MP3 files can. Though there is a method that broadcasters use which involves a secondary BWF file.

Make backups before any major scans as the outcome can be unexpected.

Thank you for the reply Doug.
I can see how it could get messy.
I assume that, being there is an MP3 format already created in Catraxx, MP3 information would still be manually entered; or was it the intention to use Music Brainz Picard originally for some/all data input?
I am not adversed to using the MP3 data input (if there is an automated way) if it gets results, the fact that in reality the file maybe flac or wave doesn't matter.
If a CUE file is created (or present) with a Wave format album, can that be used for the track information?
Kind regards
Andy

Music Brainz Picard updates/changes the meta data of the MP3 file.

CATraxx can read MP3 meta data. You need to do AUDIO > SCAN FOLDERS: ADD AUDIO FILES.

I may be beneficial to create a new, empty database and do the scan.
Review the data, then transfer to your main database what looks good.
Please do review the TOOLS > AUDIO FILE OPTIONS and the associated HELP button.

And also be sure to uncheck Auto update tag and uncheck AutoOrganize. Both VERY powerful and once set up correctly, truly easy to use but it's getting it setup as you expect that can be VERY challenging.

I do not believe CUE files with a WAV file will work but I am not 100%.
